Our Story

Serving youth for 25 years and counting.

In 1999, at the age of only 26, Lancelot Burton started the Youth of Today Society (YOTS)  as an artistic refuge for Yukon youth. Since then, YOTS has been delivering quality arts programming to youth in Whitehorse and the communities.

YOTS Opens

The Youth of Today Society opens its doors at a prime downtown location (located where 2157 2nd Ave. currently is).

2016

Shakat Journal

YOTS revives the Shakat Journal, an out-of-print magazine published by Yukon first nations' youth from 1980 to 1991. Unfortunately, funding cuts meant the old journal had to shut down.

2020

Youth Network Hub

After an independent organization was tasked with identifying service and programming shortfalls for Yukon youth, the Youth Network (youthnetwork.ca) was created to address communication barriers between youth and youth-serving organizations.

Voices North

Voices North is YOTS' flagship program and newest iteration of the Shakat Journal. Here, we empower young storytellers though training, mentorship, and employment opportunities.

CBC Yukon

"The Yukon Apparel Mentorship program is a game-changer for at-risk youth, offering them a chance to learn valuable skills and gain confidence. It's about more than just clothing; it's about changing lives."
