With Covid-19 is affecting everyone, we understand that YOUTH still need to save for next year's tuition, housing and more. We have some opportunities for extra income that may be of interest to you. Please review below and contact us right away if you feel this could be a project for you.

Sample JOBOPPORTUNITIES
Community Reporters - As per assignment

We need community stories and we're hoping you can assist us.

 

Requirements:

  • Heading back to school next year

  • Willing to interview people in your community

  • Willing to take an online or on-site workshop

  • Willing to be paid upon completion of final edited assignment

  • Have some creativity skills in photography and video

  • Willing to hike and follow outdoor community activities

  • Record, Listen, and film (from tri-pod) Elder's stories

  • Willing to do background research of subject

  • Willing to write a complimentary story to photo or video

  • Have a slight understanding of editing video, sound and photographs.

  • Willing to take direction from Editor

Assignment 1  - 5 candidates @ $1000.00

A three (3) minute final video about your local First Nation, Elder, or Youth Leader. Youth Reporter must consult with local First Nation to determine who will be the subject of your video. Once a candidate has been chosen and approved by your local First Nation, a permissions form must be submitted to us and signed by the approved candidate. Your permission form can be accessed here.

 

The next process, and it's very important, is to formulate questions for the candidate; There will be some questions provided to you and the rest will be up to you to create and get approved by ShakatMedia.

 

Some research of your candidate is necessary so the audience has a stronger understanding of the candidate. Research can be from online sources, candidates personal library, or from community archives. All sources must have source credits placed in your production.

 

Video should be shot with best possible visual and sound quality. Camera must be mounted on a tri-pod and camera frame of you subject should be set as samples provided.

The creative part of your video happens in your B-roll, you can use drone shots, voice overs, time lapse, tight, medium or wide shots. B-roll is recommended for your project and you can either contact us to offer suggestions or research here of how others succeed with producing B-roll

 

A minimum of 10 Photographs must be taken for this project and they will accompany a 600-1000 word story associated with the video

Video should be edited in either Adobe Premier or DaVinci Resolve - Best free video editing software for advanced enthusiasts. All Files must be uploaded. If you do not have access to editing software you will have an opportunity to upload your raw material.

As this is a paid contract - All rights of the story, video or photographs will belong to ShakatMedia, we will credit you and your work and then provide you with a link to use as your portfolio 18 months after we've published. No project can be published on your personal website or social feeds before the 18 months has lapsed. If these conditions can not be adhered to, please do not apply.

Assignment 2 - 5 candidates @ $1000.00

A three (3) minute final video about your local First Nation traditions. Subject can be about land-based learning, tanning hides, beading, mukluk making, tufting, language or unique art or craft. Youth Reporter must consult with local First Nation to determine who will be the subject of your video.

 

For example; if you are doing a video on tanning hides, you must first find a skilled person to be your subject. It would be preferred that the subject was actually tanning a hide, but it is not necessary. The candidate will also be paid a per Diem for their participation in your story.

It would be preferred that the subject was actually beading in the film you make of them, but it is not necessary. The candidate will also be paid a per Diem for their participation in your story.
