-CARMACKS-
Little Salmon First Nations
Eddy Skookum became chief in 1996. He was inspired to become chief because he enjoys helping his people. A majority of the Carmacks Little Salmon First Nation wanted him to run for chief and Eddie knows some of his traditional language which is very benificial. He is very in touch with the traditional ways of the Little Salmon First Nation and the tradional laws. He has an indian name, Ha-qu-sckana when translated into english means "man standing on hill looking for moose". Chief Eddie skookum is Northern Tuchone and a part of the wolf clan, but as chief he represents both wolf and crow clan.
Eddie states being chief has its ups and downs, one con is the fact that he is away from his family alot or just really busy all the time. Other than that being chief is great for Eddie because he gets to meet many people, he's a role model to the community, he is the main speaker for the citizens of Carmacks and he gets to protect the way the Little Salmon First Nations do things culturaly. One goal that he has as chief is to implament self-governing.
